Medical Interpreter Certificate Program

Accurate cross-cultural communication of information from one language to another in healthcare contexts.

This introductory noncredit course, designed for individuals who are bilingual in English and Spanish or English and Portuguese, focuses on the basic competency skills necessary to work as a trained medical interpreter. The course adheres to the Standards of Practice for medical interpreters as established by the National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare. Students who participate in this program will be required to complete a 15-hour internship with Cape Cod Hospital.

Admission Requirements

Satisfactory basic skills assessment score and target language assessment required.
Minimum age of 18.
Valid photo ID.
Pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and Sex Offender Record Information (SORI) check.
Students must meet all College medical and immunization requirements:
- - Proof of current health insurance coverage and coverage must be maintained throughout the program
  - Immunization requirements and FAQ for health career students (learn more)
  - Drug screening required.

This course is grant-funded. Space is limited.

Course Format and Schedule
This course will be offered virtually using Zoom. Our program starts in early 2026.
