Cape Cod Community College (“4Cs”) has welcomed new senior leadership overseeing two of their largest academic areas of study. This semester, the West Barnstable-based institution introduced Dr. Marianne Targino-VanBeber as their new Dean of Health Sciences and Professional Studies and Dr. Ben Latigo as their new Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, Cape Cod Community College inducted its newest members into their chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the renowned international honor society for two-year colleges. Through 4Cs’ chapter of PTK, known as Alpha Upsilon Mu, students will gain access to special scholarship opportunities, career training and advice, and national recognition for their academic achievements.

Cape Cod Community College has been awarded a $2.25 million Title III grant to improve equity, retention, and student success by expanding student support services and technology. Granted by the US Department of Education, the funds will be distributed at roughly $450,000 per year over five years. Title III funds like this are granted to institutions that serve a high number of students with high economic need.

This week, in continued support of aviation education and local talent development, Cape Air gifted Cape Cod Community College’s Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program a recently retired Cessna 402c aircraft for student training. The new aircraft joins the AMT’s programs growing fleet – including two other donated planes from Cape Air – at their facilities in Plymouth Municipal Airport.

Cape Cod Community College (“4Cs”) has received the prestigious Garrett Lee Smith Campus Suicide Prevention Grant to continue their work in providing internal and external support systems for students. The grant will provide the College with $306,000 over three years to expand an infrastructure so its Student Wellness team can better identify and intervene with students at risk for mental health and substance use issues before they reach crisis. 4Cs is one of 25 awardees of the funding nationwide and is the only recipient in Massachusetts.

Governor Maura Healey has reappointed Joe McGrail, Manager of eCommerce for the Boston Beer Company, to the Cape Cod Community College Board of Trustees. A 1999 graduate of the College and a Duxbury resident, McGrail will begin his second five-year term elected by the alumni of the College and appointed by Governor Healey.

After many months of discussion on Beacon Hill, free community college has finally come to Massachusetts. By signing the new State budget on Wednesday, August 9, Governor Maura Healey’s groundbreaking “MassReconnect” program became a reality. As a result, Cape Cod Community College is now enrolling qualified students to start – or finish – their college degree for free with classes starting September 5.

At the annual meeting of the Cape Cod Community College Educational Foundation Board of Directors on June 26, five new members were elected to serve three-year terms beginning July 1, 2023.

On Friday, April 14 Cape Cod Community College and 90.7 WKKL will host the “2023 Cape Cod Media Conference” on the College’s West Barnstable campus. Open to the public, the Media Conference is designed to connect the community with careers and opportunities within the professional world of media and broadcasting.

This April vacation, the Wilkens Family Dental Hygiene Clinic at Cape Cod Community College will once again be providing free examinations and cleanings for children ages 3 through 17.
